New Arrivals

When I was in Middle School (it was called Junior High way back then)  I could spend hours browsing the shelves at the book store in the mall.  Sure, I could go to the library, but there was something about a brand new book, crisp cover, a fresh never been told yet  story.  Not like those old stale books in the library. Now that I am a librarian, I've come to appreciate all those old favorites and classics on our library shelves.  The thing is, those old books were once glossy, right off the presses. The broken spines and dog eared pages are proof that readers have been enjoying those adventures, feeling the heartbreaks and seeing back through time again and again. Those new arrivals with their glossy covers and unbent pages are waiting impatiently until your hands pull them off the shelf and inside discover.....everything and anything.

In the past few months. we've added many, many new titles just waiting for their turn for you to open them.

Aru Shah and the End of Time
by Roshani Chokshi

Aru Shah has a tendency to stretch the truth in order to fit in at school. While her classmates are jetting off to family vacations in exotic locales, she'll be spending her autumn break at home, in the Museum of Ancient Indian Art and Culture, waiting for her mom to return from her latest archeological trip. Is it any wonder that Aru makes up stories about being royalty, traveling to Paris, and having a chauffeur?

One day, her friends catch her in a lie. They don't believe her claim that the museum's Lamp of Bharata is cursed, and they dare Aru to prove it. Just a quick light, Aru thinks. Then she can get herself out of this mess and never ever fib again.

But lighting the lamp has dire consequences.

The Magical Misfits
by Neil Patrick Harris

When street magician Carter runs away, he never expects to find friends and magic in a sleepy New England town. But like any good trick, things change instantly as greedy B.B. Bosso arrive to steal anything and everything they can get their sticky fingers on.

After a fateful encounter with the local purveyor of illusion, Dante Vernon, Carter teams up with five other like-minded illusionists. Using both teamwork and magic, they'll set out to save the town from Bosso's villainous clutches. Soon they will discover adventure, friendship, and their own self-worth in this delightful new series.

(Psst. Hey, you! Yes, you! Congratulations on reading this far. As a reward, I'll let you in on a little secret... This book isn't just a book. It's a treasure trove of secrets and ciphers and codes and even tricks. Keep your eyes peeled and you'll discover more than just a story--you'll learn how to make your own magic!)

The Story Thieves
by James Riley

Life is boring when you live in the real world, instead of starring in your own book series. Owen knows that better than anyone, what with the real world’s homework and chores.

But everything changes the day Owen sees the impossible happen—his classmate Bethany climb out of a book in the library. It turns out Bethany’s half-fictional and has been searching every book she can find for her missing father, a fictional character.

Bethany can’t let anyone else learn her secret, so Owen makes her a deal: All she has to do is take him into a book in Owen’s favorite Kiel Gnomenfoot series, and he’ll never say a word. Besides, visiting the book might help Bethany find her father…

…Or it might just destroy the Kiel Gnomenfoot series, reveal Bethany’s secret to the entire world, and force Owen to live out Kiel Gnomenfoot’s final (very final) adventure.
